ASTHMA:
If your child has asthma, please notify the school nurse. Children can self-carry their inhalers with the agreement by the physician and parent/guardian; otherwise, medication can be kept in school. Notify the school nurse if you need permission to medicate forms sent home.
ATTENDANCE:
If you are calling your child out from school due to illness or injury, call the School Nurse at 609-492-5034
CONTACT INFORMATION:
If you have had any changes in phone numbers, please send current information in writing to the main office.
COUGH DROPS:
Cough drops cannot be brought to school. If your child has a persistent sore throat, call your Pediatrician because it may be something more serious that requires medical attention. You may send in a water bottle to soothe a sore throat.
FIELD TRIPS:
If your child has an inhaler, EPI-PEN or benadryl and cannot self carry the medication, the parent/guardian will be asked to attend the field trip. If you are unable to attend, please contact the school nurse as soon as possible.
GYM/RECESS EXCUSES:
Parents/guardians may write an excuse from physical activities for up to two days, after two days, a medical note is needed.
HANDWASHING :
This is the best way to prevent the spread of germs. Also, covering your cough by coughing or sneezing into your upper sleeve and not your hands is a good preventative.
HEAD INJURIES:
Head injuries can occur at any time during play or sports. A concussion is a type of brain injury that changes the way the brain normally works. You can't see a concussion. Signs and symptoms of a concussion can show up after an injury or may not appear until hours or days after an injury. Signs and symptoms include: headache, nausea/vomiting, double vision, changes in vision, sensitivity to light/sound, feels sluggish or foggy, difficult with concentration and short term memory loss, sleep disturbance and or irritability. If you suspect that your child has had a concussion or has these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately. https://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/
HEALTH CONCERNS/PHYSICALS/IMMUNIZATIONS:
If your child has been diagnosed with a new medical diagnosis, or if a physical is performed or if any immunizations are given, please send in any health information to the school nurse. Physicals are recommended once a year and when a child enters school from outside of the school district.
Injuries/Playground Injuries
If your child has had an injury in school, or on the playground during school hours and it was not reported by the student, the parent/guardian should immediately notify the school as soon as possible.
Call the nurse's office and leave a message if it is after school hours.
LICE:
If your child is positive for head lice, or if you are unsure about your child having head lice, please contact the school nurse, so I can follow up with your child and I can assist you with further information.
LOST & FOUND:
Lost lunch boxes, coats, or any clothing materials are located on the tables outside of the cafeteria. Lost items such as jewelry, money, wallets or keys are located in the front office.
MEDICAL INFORMATION:
Any changes in your child's medical status need to be documented by your child's physician and given in writing to the school nurse. Please update this health information yearly.
MEDICATION:
If you wish to have medications in the nurse’s office, please call me, so I can send home the appropriate paperwork. Medications cannot be carried into the school by the student.
SCREENINGS:
Height/Weight/BP and vision screenings will be performed on all students.
Hearing screenings will be performed on students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
If you receive a referral, please contact your child's Pediatrician and have them complete and sign the bottom portion of the referral and return the referral note to the nurse’s office. If you do not have vision insurance and you receive a referral, please contact me, so I can give you information about the Lion’s Club. They have helped many of our students receive free eye care and eyeglasses.
SEVERE ALLERGIES:
EPI-PEN's and benadryl can be kept in the nurse's office or a student may self-carry these items with the correct paperwork. Notify the school nurse if you need permission to medicate forms sent home.
STREP:
If a strep test is performed on your child and comes back positive, please call the school nurse.
TEMPERATURE :
If a student has a temperature >100.0 F, the child may return to school 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal (98.6F). These orders are written as per our school physician. Checking your child’s forehead is not a good measurement of temperature, use a thermometer for accuracy.
VOMITING/DIARRHEA :
If a child has vomiting or diarrhea, he/she should be excluded from school until 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
